The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) serves as the recognition body for institutional and specialized accreditors. The IACBE is in the process of seeking CHEA recognition.
CHEA is the only US-based association that recognizes business accrediting bodies. The US Department of Education recognizes accrediting bodies that serve as a gateway for federal funding, but has determined that business accreditation does not serve that function. Therefore, while recognition by CHEA is voluntary, the IACBE’s Board of Directors has been committed to recognition by CHEA.
