2014 IACBE Annual Conference and Assembly Meeting a Great Success

IACBE Annual Conference

San DiegoThe Board of Directors, the Board of Commissioners, and the staff of the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) are pleased to report that our 2014 Annual Conference and Assembly Meeting (ACAM) held in San Diego, California, USA was a tremendous success! In addition, our 2014 ACAM saw a number of historic firsts for the Assembly. The conference enjoyed another record attendance again this year, and there were many wonderful opportunities for professional development, networking with colleagues, and for sharing best practices in business education. Many conference delegates commented that it was the “best conference ever,” and echoed the sentiments of one participant who remarked: “Wow! I want to thank you for an excellent conference. The sessions and presentations were wonderful, informative, and the best I can remember. In addition, the workshop I attended on Friday was extremely helpful. I thoroughly enjoy the IACBE conferences. I have been to conferences of the other business accrediting bodies, but the IACBE conferences are different. They are friendlier, more open, and more collegial than the other conferences. Thank you so much! I had a wonderful time and look forward to seeing you next year!”

Trends and Challenges in Business Education (TCBE) Initiative

Trends and Challenges in Business EducationThe 2014 ACAM saw the launch of our Trends and Challenges in Business Education (TCBE) Project. This ongoing initiative will bring together the IACBE community for the purpose of addressing the challenges associated with the major trends in business and business education. The IACBE will serve as a communications hub for connecting our members and for the distribution of information. Using social media, blogs, discussion boards, webinars, and other electronic platforms, schools will be able to work together to (i) discuss issues relating to trends in business education, (ii) address the associated challenges facing our member institutions, and (iii) develop possible solutions to those challenges. The IACBE website and other digital media will then be used to share information with the entire IACBE community. Special Interest Working Groups will also be created to bring together like-minded individuals who are interested in working on a particular topic area related to the trends and challenges in business education. In addition, members will be able to meet face-to-face periodically as special sessions devoted to this initiative will be included in the IACBE’s Annual Conference and Assembly Meeting and Summer Institute. This new initiative will provide IACBE members with significant opportunities for professional development and thought leadership in this important area. But perhaps more importantly, it will allow the IACBE and its members to collaborate collectively for the common purpose of developing ways to address the challenging issues facing our institutions, and will contribute to our common goal of excellence in business education. Trends and Challenges in Business Education (TCBE) Project

Accreditation Recipients

At Thursday evening’s Accreditation Banquet – the highlight of each annual conference – the IACBE recognized its accreditation class of 2013. Student Case-Study Competition

This year’s conference also featured the third annual student case-study competition focusing on business ethics. The competition was open to students from all IACBE-member schools, and provided students with an opportunity to showcase their ability to analyze a case, and to identify and discuss recommendations for action in an ethical and thoughtful manner. This year’s final-round case, entitled “The Carrot, the Stick, and Employer-Sponsored Wellness Programs,” was written by Dr. Paul Melendez, Department of Management and Organizations at the University of Arizona, and was graciously provided to the IACBE by the university’s Eller Center for Leadership Ethics. Winners of the 2014 Student Case-Study Competition
